Wayne McGregor works with Bayerisches Staatsballett for the first time, with the addition of Kairos and Borderlands to the company's repertoire, alongside a world premiere of a new work.

Germany's Ballet Festival Week 2018 opens with the world premiere of a new work by Wayne McGregor for Bayerisches Staatsballett, the first time he has created with the company. McGregor collaborates with Catherine Smith on set design, with music by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho and lighting by long-time collaborator Lucy Carter. The new work is based on six poems by Persian Sufi mystic Rumi.

The new work is presented in Portrait Wayne McGregor, an all-McGregor programme with Borderlands(San Francisco Ballet, 2013) and Kairos (Ballett Zürich, 2014).

“It's interesting to work with dancers who are working on new interpretations of existing pieces and to see how they make the material their own and how they present it to the audience. And at the same time I've got the opportunity to create something completely new with the dancers. I'm looking forward to working on a new piece with the dancers at the Staatsballett,” - Wayne McGregor
