AISOMA: an A.I.
Out of Nature, a new A.I. augmented creation by Wayne McGregor, questions the fundamentals of human creativity and presents a remarkable future for art making where co-authoring original work alongside an artificial intelligence becomes commonplace.
For the past three decades, Wayne McGregor, award-winning, multi-disciplinary artist-researcher, choreographer and director, has innovated in live performance, installation and creation – redefining the parameters of dance. Driven by a curiosity about our shared physical intelligence and its inherent creative potential, his experiments have led him into collaborative dialogue with an array of artistic forms, scientific disciplines, and technological interventions. As a pioneer in the creative application of artificial intelligence, McGregor continues to test and expand the possibilities of human movement and form through intimate interactions with machines and systems
For this new, full-length production, McGregor will collaborate with visual artist and A.I radical Sougwen Chung and lighting magician Lucy Carter. Each will use award-winning writer Ben Okri’s poem, Mental Flight as a departure point for collaboration. McGregor’s choreography will be created on and performed by Company Wayne McGregor, a group of 10 internationally renowned contemporary dancers.
Each element of Out of Nature, choreography, sound and set design, will be augmented by a specially created A.I, the development of which – AISOMA – will come out of the collaborative, creative process. All aspects will co-exist and collaborate in evocative (dis)harmony, a completely symbiotic creative process where the boundaries between human and technology begin to blur.
